Christian heavy metallers, hell-bent, oops, heaven-bent on becoming Finland's very own Manowar.
Too bad Forever Winter beat them to it.

Halonen
|
|
A Finnish music scene mainstay, writer of many a gold-selling schlager and semi-evergreen. This Purple/Heep/Rainbow-influenced hard rock album and the accompanying singles were some sort of
a side step for Mr. Halonen. He has worked with Kirka for years and the diminutive schlager/rock star actually recorded some of these songs a couple of years later with better success.

A power trio featuring the Sallinen brothers rocking hard. The early recordings of the band are sung in
Finnish and aren't particularly powerful but the material recorded in the early '80s is solid hard rock with driving guitar work.

Havana Black(s)
|
|
A hard rock combo fronted by Hannu "Guts" Leiden of Sarcofagus fame. Originally the band was
called Havana Blacks but the "s" was dropped when it was time to start marketing the band outside
of Finland - a politically correct decision that hurt no one.
Havana Black can be called one of those Finnish bands that almost made it big. They toured the
States with Michael Schenker Group and Great White and shared the same management
with Guns'n'Roses but in the end things just didn't turn out the way they might have.
Nowadays Leiden runs the Seawolf Studios in Suomenlinna (an island off Helsinki's coast) where a number
of Finnish (metal) bands have recorded their material.

HIM
|
|
Love metal - oh boy and yeah right. Make that rather sweet melodic hard rock with some dark goth-romantic vibe
added to make the impressionable youth go wild. The band started out by covering Chris Isaak and went on from there.
The attraction of HIM (His Infernal Majesty in the early days) is strongly based on vocalist Ville Valo's charisma -
something the dozens of undistinguished copycats can only dream of. Drummer Gas Lipstick (Mika "Kaasu" Karppinen)
has played drums also in Kyyria among others and he was also the vocalist in thrash combo Dementia.

Hiroshima
|
|
Originally formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 1982 as Target, and considered a Swedish band by most people but featured here here by public demand.
The band's guitarists were brothers originally from Pielavesi and drummer Raimo "The Quick" Pikanen was a rock n' roll veteran from Tampere (who had already played glam rock
in Alwari Tuohitorvi in the early '70s - and is still active in Indians Of Justice with Jukka Tolonen of Tasavallan Presidentti fame). Hiroshima played solid '80s
metal with some '70s hard rock influences. Bass player Jouko went on to play in glam/sleaze rockers Pussy Galore
and vocalist Tony moved to the States in the late '80s.

Hard rockers from Tampere whose self-financed 7" single topped the local (as in Tampere, a city of less than 300.000 people)

Drummer Ari "Kreivi" Toikka has later tasted real success in the world-famous disco group Bomfunk MC's.
Vocalist Juha Junttu has made a good career in acting.
