Death metal from Vaasa. Guitarist Karri Suoraniemi (later to be known as W.G. Victor) carried on with Wings
and Enochian Crescent and vocalist Mikki Salo started a record label called Woodcut Records. Drummer Kai
Hahto has played grindcore with Rotten Sound for some time now and also used to be in Enochian Crescent
(using the ominous pseudonym Caer Hallam Generis).

Children of Bodom
|
|
Originally formed in 1993 as Inearthed, playing melodic death metal. Then snapped up by Spinefarm
who invented a more marketable moniker for the group and launched them into girly metal stardom.
The music appeals mostly to the young generations of metal fans. It's got merry melodies aplenty, the
keyboads are sweet, and front man Alexi "Wildchild" Laiho has those innocent bad boy looks that the female sex
apparently find quite irresistible. Laiho has also played in Thy Serpent, Impaled Nazarene and Sinergy.
Keyboard player Janne Wirman has a solo project called Warmen, featuring bassist Lauri Porra and drummer
Mirka Rantanen (ex-Loud Crowd, currently also in Thunderstone) from Finnish progressive metal outfit Tunnelvision, as well as special guests
like Kimberly Goss (Sinergy), Roope Latvala (Stone, Sinergy, Waltari, etc.) and Jari Kainulainen (Stratovarius).
The soul of this project can also be tracked down to Spinefarm Records - executive Ewo Rytkönen co-ordinated the
whole thing down to the last details, even coming up with the song titles. That's complete artistic freedom for ya!

Despite the feminine name this is an all-male band. With names like Marc Nicole, Chris Candy, Kim Travis and Pete
Sweeney you surely can't expect them to deliver a tornado of testosterone. And sugary hard rock it is alright.
Later on ex-Christine members have appeared in bands like Stratovarius, Havana Black and Five Fifteen for instance.

Convulse
|
|
Once speed metallers Seven Death's Sins discovered death metal in '90 they changed their name to Convulse.
They are considered to be the godfathers of the Nokia death metal scene (see Purtenance and Lubricant).
Rami Jämsä (vocals/guitar) had made it on record already a couple of years earlier with hard rock band
Havoc and he has also played in Puhelinkoppi (originally a hardcore side project of the Flounder weirdos).
In '95 Jämsä submitted a very Pearl Jam/Soundgarden-ish demo to Relapse and the band got dropped.
Subsequently the revamped line-up changed the name to
Pornorphans and started to play metallic rock enhanced with female vocals and keyboards.
