Demigod
|
|
One of the few top quality brutal death metal combos from Finland. After the successful debut demo
"Unholy Domain" recorded with a trio line-up the Loimaa-based band got signed with Drowned and
became a quintet. Unfortunately their story came to an end soon after the debut album and some
of the members found themselves a new home in Adramelech. Demigod have recently made a
comeback as a sextet but without the original vocalist/guitarist Esa Lindén.

Dethrone
|
|
Speed metallers from Tampere, heavily inspired by Metallica. The 7" accurately documents "Powermad" (a stomping Heavy Metal anthem and a live favourite) but with the full-length the band's objective production-wise
was to make the record sound so nasty no-one would stomach listening to it. Too bad they succeeded with flying colours.
The second album displayed the band's broadening musical tastes and ultimately catered to no-one. Together with Jan "Örkki"
Yrlund of Prestige, Dethrone's Niko Airaksinen and Jouni "Tissi" Rinta (RIP) ran the cult comic magazine Tsürps
for quite a few years. The adventures of Tissi's creation Anti-Social Skeleton remain a particularly fond memory.
In fact, the track "Black Dawn" on the debut album was originally entitled "Anti-Social Skeleton".

Deuteronomium
|
|
Christian death metallers from Jyväskylä. Head honcho Manu Lehtinen was the single most important man
behind the Finnish white metal scene in the '90s, running the label Little Rose Productions that had a hand in
practically each and every record released in the genre in this country. Deuteronomium folded due to some
members engaging in not overly Christian lifestyles and the label more or less faded away after Mr Lehtinen suffered a burnout of sorts.

Disgrace
|
|
Turku death metallers cum aggro/action rockers who have always had the misfortune of being dubbed Xysma's
kid brothers. Let's set the record straight once and for all: the two bands are contemporaries, and Disgrace have outlasted
Xysma by several years. Xysma never made a death metal record, whereas Disgrace's "Grey Misery" certainly is one,
and a good one at that. A cryptic line can be found in the lyrics that says, "The paper was Aamulehti/And it was vitun hyvä"
but that doesn't necessarily have a whole lot to do with anything in particular.
Disgrace have been about full-on aggression,
heavy weight riffhem and incredible infectiousness for most of their career. '93's unreleased full-length album "Vol II: Black Lizards Cry"
was Sabbath worship, and although "Superhuman Dome" contained new versions of some of those songs,
Disgrace had already embarked on a new mission. Unfortunately their brand of Hate Rock has not maintained
those heights of intensity but they're always an excellent live act.
